HB 18-1037: Concealed Handguns On School Grounds

With certain exceptions, current law limits the authority of a person who holds a valid permit to carry a concealed handgun by prohibiting a permit holder from carrying a concealed handgun on public elementary, middle, junior high, or high school grounds. The bill removes this limitation. (Note: This summary applies to this bill as introduced.)

CEA opposes this bill because research does not support the idea that more guns leads to a safer space. Firearms on school campuses increase the risk for gun injuries and fatalities. CEA supports the idea that anyone who is carrying a gun on a campus be required to pass more stringent safety tests and trainings than a concealed carry permit provides (want SROs).
