The bill allows a unit of local government to enact laws establishing a minimum wage within its jurisdiction. (Note: This summary applies to the reengrossed version of this bill as introduced in the second house.)
Increasing minimum wage, especially in areas with high costs of living, will support the living conditions of our students....reducing the number of jobs and hours worked by parents and students who must struggle to make ends meet. Further, this should support ESP in contract negotiations around pay and salary.
