The bill requires the state board of education (state board) to stagger the review and revision of the preschool through elementary and secondary education standards as follows: On or before July 1, 2022, and on or before July 1 every 6 years thereafter, the state board shall review and revise approximately 1/3 of the preschool through elementary and secondary education standards; On or before July 1, 2024, and on or before July 1 every 6 years thereafter, the state board shall review and revise approximately 1/3 of the preschool through elementary and secondary education standards; and On or before July 1, 2026, and on or before July 1 every 6 years thereafter, the state board shall review and revise the remaining approximately 1/3 of the preschool through elementary and secondary education standards. The state board shall ensure that all preschool through elementary and secondary education standards are reviewed one time every 6 years.

CEA Position Rationale: Having all standards up for review at one time has created a huge workload/burden on educators, schools, and districts. Staggering the review of standards is a step toward making the work of updating standards more manageable and meaningful.
